Media & Learning

Description

Key Questions

  • What are the most effective ways to capture – and hold – the attention of different groups of people in order to support their learning and their access to learning?

Researchers and educators now recognize that there are many ways to learn – and that media and technologies can support learning in different ways. Our work centers the role of media both inside and outside of school settings. We are particularly interested in access to learning: how can we empower those who have traditionally been excluded from formal learning, or marginalized in particular types of learning?

We get especially energized thinking about trust – and why people learn.

Future Directions

  • How can media support learning for different age groups in different contexts? We are looking at everything from on-demand video for young children to journalists' professional learning.
  • What are some potential relationships between storytelling and ethics education and ethical principles? We are working with storytellers whose work is regularly used as examples in ethics courses as well as with partners who see storytelling as a method for students to share what they've learned.
