Environment as Pathway to Learning

Description

Key Questions

  • How can hands-on engagement with nature facilitate learning and skill development?
  • How does interaction with natural systems lead to interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and environmental stewardship?
  • How do meaningful experiences with nature translate to longer-term personal responsibility towards environmental care?

We conceptualize natural systems as a path or medium to accomplish social and environmental goals that include but are not limited to conceptual learning, skills development, career advancement, and community empowerment. Our work in this initiative focuses on the environment as a means to address critical social problems that are aligned closely to positive environmental impacts. The focus is on building knowledge and competencies of audiences through active, close engagement with flora and fauna with the hope of inspiring stewardship indirectly.
